DIY Chalkboard Valentines Tray

 Who is getting excited for Valentines Day?

I think I like decorating for Valentines more than the actual

holiday itself.  Either way I am still getting anxious to

put out the Valentines decor.

When Katelyn and I were looking at everything that IKEA had

to offer and we saw this cute plate for $4.99!

 We thought it looked like a lace doilie. 

It reminded us of something you would put out on

Valentines Day.

And since chalkboard has become all the rage lately

we thought this would be a perfect chalkboard.

 So we taped off the sides and got out our handy chalkboard

spray paint and sprayed the center.

We taped and covered the sides while painting.

After a coat or two of paint we had a

chalkboard center. 

 Now the possibilities are endless for decorating.

Use as a tray for treats, cute drinks

or do like we did and fill your martini glass

with conversation hearts.

 If only I was an artist, I would have an amazing

"fonty" handwriting and be able to make the

most adorable chalkboard signs I could imagine,

but I'm not, so the extras on the plate will have

to steal the stage for me.

Let the countdown to Valentines Day begin.

Valentines treats

You can't walk into any store and not see the

conversations hearts already on the shelf.

I mean really it's not really Valentines without them.

And why not display this in the cutest

hobnail glass bowl from IKEA

and only $1.99

What's for dinner? Veggie Pot pie

 What is better on a cold Utah day than making

homemade veggie pot pies?

Well maybe if someone made them for you, 

but believe me this "recipe" is easy and tasty.

 Make sure to butter your baking dish.

'

 The reason we don't really call this a "recipe" is because

you really can cater the proportions to your family.

Add a little more or a little less, no worries, it's 

going to turn out just fine.

See here we started with 4 potatoes, but only cubed 3 of them.

It was plenty when we started chopping

 Chop carrots, onion and celery to your desired thickness.

 Dump all your veggies in your pot in beef broth,

 you will need one small can.

Or you can do like we do and make your own with 

Shirly J beef broth powder.

 You will need one egg beaten to brush on top of the crust.

Okay, okay we said veggie pot pie, but if you have 

a rotisserie chicken like we did from Sam's Club at home

feel free to throw it in too.

The mushrooms are the real "meat" in the dish which is

why we usually don't use meat at all.

 After veggies are softened sprinkle flour on top to

thicken the beef broth.  You can also saute your veggies

first, then add flour, saute some more, and then the broth.

See no real recipe.

 When veggies are soft dump in your desired baking dish.

Roll out your pie crust over top.

Don't worry if the juice already starts coming up.

Make small slits in the crust and brush with your beaten egg.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes.

Just when your crust is nice and golden brown.

 Pot pie anyone?

We did throw in some of my leftover rotisserie chicken we had.

This is not your peanuts and pretzels

our dear Plane Cute readers.

This is a "first class meal."

Did we mention the crust is flaky and inside

is pure comfort food.

Veggie Pot Pie

3-4 potatoes scrubbed and chopped

1/4 an onion chopped

1 carrot chopped

1 celery stock chopped

1 package of chopped mushrooms

1 small can beef broth 14 oz

{or make your own}

one prepared pie crust

S&P

Like we said before cater this to your own families

size and tastes.  Want less carrots, use less.  Or more

potatoes use more.  You get the idea.

Chop all your veggies and add to beef broth.

Simmer to soften veggies.

Add S&P to taste.

You may also need to add some beef bullion to

"beef it up" a bit.

Make sure you have enough liquid to

become the "gravy."

When soft dump into your buttered baking dish.

Lay pie crust on top and brush crust with beaten egg.

Bake at 350 degrees for around 25 minutes.

This will depend on your oven.

Pinterest inspired Argle Heart Wreath

 Inspired by Pinterest we thought this
argyle heart wreath
was Just Too Plane Cute not to make.
This is our finish project.

We took a 14 inch foam wreath and gray yarn,
both bought at Hobby Lobby.
Wrap your wreath, tightly.
Secure with got glue on the back.

Next trace a heart on two colors of felt.

You will need to cut out 7-8 hearts

in each color of felt, depending on the exact

size of your wreath.

If you are lucky enough to find polka dot felt then

you can make one that is this adorable.

Space out your hearts in opposite directions

around your wreath.  Secure each with a line of

hot glue on the back.

Don't forget to have yummy treats on hand while

crafting.  Just Plane yummy!

You can choose any yarn you like, this felt was extra

"wooly" and looked perfectly fuzzy when wrapped.

Again you will need to cut out 7-8 hearts in each color.

We learned that it is easier to wrap your

first cross with the yarn all going the same

direction.  Then secure with hot glue.

Then repeat going the other direction.

Our finished wreaths.

Let your imaginations take flight.

You can use a darker charcoal yarn,

and any color combo for hearts.
